That is how far Puzzle (my dog) and I have walked together to date. 9000 km. Took us most of his life, though! We walk together every morning – come sunshine, rain, snow, fog…we go! Initially, I thought it was for him (he was a crazy busybody pup), but eventually, I realised it was more for me. I can’t tell you how many “things” I have walked away from (and I probably won’t). Every. Single. Morning.
Only recently did I realise it is better to walk “in” to things. Only by going in can you ever get through and out.
Another thing that I do daily is read and listen to podcasts. Non-fiction, mostly. Back when I had absolutely no control over my thoughts, I’d listen to podcasts during walks in an attempt to remain sane. But largely thanks to all the voices (and words) that I allowed in, I can now walk comfortably with my own mind.
Recently, I came across Craig Mod – he also walks a lot, but not like us at all! He goes on long walks (like 30km per day for 30 days) and visits interesting places (Japan, UK, USA, Indonesia, China, Thailand, France, Spain, Portugal, Kyrgyzstan…and, and, and). Puzzle and I have basically walked the same circular route for about 9000km (on about 2500 days). And you know what? He approaches it like it is the most magical part of his day, every day. The excitement, the intention, the interest…I bet his nose lets him walk a “different” route each day, even though it stays the same. It is all about your approach.
So, I changed my approach, too. (Almost) every day, I have at least one magical experience on the walk – a thought, a sunrise, a laugh, an actual moment. I’m going to start documenting these podcast, book, and walk-infused moments (hence, walk’in). You’re welcome to follow along here or here (and maybe elsewhere too – I’ll still see). I’ve no idea how these moments will look, but they may include elements of memes, insights, quotes, photos, and who knows what else. Let’s get walk’in.
