My 6-year-old niece was singing a song (that she totally made up as she went) to my sick pup filled with tips on how to get well again. Better, better, better was part of the chorus. A simple command. He did get better, better, better and she keeps singing about stuff.

Since she started school this year, I asked her about the uniform.

“What colour is it?” I asked.

She remained quiet for a long time.

“Tanned peach,” she eventually said after careful evaluation. A complex and nuanced tint.

I don’t know about you, but I would also much rather dress up in tanned peach than beige (the way I would have described it…)

The skills lie in knowing what to use when. Simple vs complex. Like the complex tides, currents, and waves vs the simple and silent sand.
